Promoting New Voices

Welcome to Books, Rhymes & Life!

It’s a crowded market and a tough profession. But there are so, so many stories that still need to be told.

As an acquisitions and developmental editor for the past 12 years, my main goal is to promote, champion and help publish new and exciting voices.

I’ve been an editor, teacher and writer for some time now, so I have the ability to show you HOW to do something in your work as opposed to just telling you that it needs to be done.

I’ve been lucky enough to work with authors of all skill levels from all parts of the world, and I’ve somehow managed to acquire and edit 400 published titles. Your boy is blessed.

The aim of BRL is to use my experience and education to help and promote new authors, especially from underrepresented voices. I want to help publish those amazing stories that need to be in print.

I’m a writer, editor and musician living in South Carolina. During the day, I’m an acquisitions editor for The History Press, where I’ve published hundreds of titles. I also come from the South, so story telling is a huge part of my life.

I’ve taught writing at the University of South Carolina and Charleston Southern University for 11 years. I got to spend 2 years as editor of the Hartsville Messenger.

I managed to earn a MFA in creative writing from U of SC, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. I’m an avid gym rat, huge 49ers fan, hip hop head and love chasing tennis balls for my dog.

I currently work with or have worked with the Florida Writer’s Conference, the Atlanta Writer’s Conference, South Carolina Writer’s Association, Black Writer’s Weekend, Broadleaf Writer’s Conference, the Pat Conroy Literary Center and the Red Clay Conference.

There are so many great new voices out there, and I’d be honored to work with them all. If you’re working on something and want to work with a passionate professional dedicated to great writing and story telling, reach out and let’s see if we fit. If I’m the right fit, I’d love to be a part.
